video issues 2018 HD

yes.. .3 is the same.
I used to work on PT 10 end it worked perfectly but now it's became impossible to work on video... I'm a sound designer and I produce audio for video. I cannot work without PT HD...
Have you found a solution?

Well.

Since I "hacked" PT 2018.4 video is much much better.

I copied the videoengine from PT 12.8.2 into PT 2018.4.
I have done this on two systems and all is good on both systems.
No garanty that other problems arise, but I have done this several times with no problems. working with dnx hd and blackmagic

Just right click on PT icon and open the program folder.
Inside you have to open an other folder where you find the video engine
Cant explain it better as I am here at home now.

You can give it a try. Just make a finder copy of Protools if you make a mistake.

oh good! A bit tricky but may be the right way!
I've solved this problem more easily: the problem was that I've been working with a video with more than 4000x2000 of resolution and it was really too big.
If I work with video with 1280x720 or little higher as 1980 I should work well

I always transcode any incoming video to Apple ProRes Proxy at no larger than 1980x1080. Less load on the machine = happier PT.

it seems that PT video engine doesn't get so much memory.
Same encode format (H.264) but lower size (1980x1080) and PT works fine.

Codec choice is very important too. H264 is an amazing technology but its design gets so much compression through many means, one of them being inter-frame compression. There isn't so much a sequence of 24 full frames per second, but the current frame is an assumption of the previous frames.

All this makes it harder for your machine to focus on running protools. Some motherboards have dedicated H264/5 decoder chips to ease the load, but most high end machines don't ironically.

really? didn't know it at all... I simply thought that it was a normal compressed video file and so it has to work on PT

PT has never been happy with h264, and because of the nature of the compression, pausing on a still frame is not that accurate so trying to spot fx etc is very difficult. Transcode to Prores or DNxHD 36 and save yourself the heartache.
