Default Fragmented Disk?

When I try to record in PT Free I get a message that says "cannot allocate disk space, disk may be fragmented."
I'm on an iMac OSX (I shut down and restart and run PT Free under OS 9)
Is there a fix for this?

Many Thanks,
Mars

I have this same problem too, I asked at the apple forums and someone said there is a Nortan program that will defragment the hard drive sswell as other programs out there too. I don't understand why apple don't provide simular software with all macs like PCs.
Does anyone know some free applications that will solve this?

Hi,

Have you read the topic on this forum?

PT Free is for OS9 NOT Classic! You will NEVER get PT FREE to run in Classic.

Maybe DIGI will release a FREE Version for OSX eventually.

NEVER defragment your disks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Instead copy your DATA to another partition/harddisk, initilaze your the partition, and copy your files back.
You can use CopyAgent for OS9 and CarbonCopyCloner for OSX. Do a search on http://versiontracker.com .
This is 100% faster and safer than ANY defragmentation software.
Besides Norton is the butcher among the surgeons anyway.

However if things go awfully wrong you should rely on Diskworrior from http://www.alsoft.com.
They forgot more about Apple Filesystems than Norton ever knew.

I do Finder copies of my volumes in 9 all the time. Works just fine.

I agree that Norton sucks for 9. TechToolPro has been great for me since my Norton disk went into the circular file.

I also agree that de-fragging files is a waste of time with modern drives. Directories however benefit from frequent rebuilding. Don't forget about the Desktop either, and an occasional PRAM zap doesn't hurt.
