I am sure someone has noticed that quickpunch records from the point of play back..but in order to save drive space is there any way to disable this to make PT only record when i hit the record button?

You can just set up Preroll..
in the transport...

Not exactly what you had in mind...
Hey it works though

(I'm assuming you want to hit record DURING playback)

If you want to change the record mode
control/click the record button.

it's just recording all the time during playback.
does this bug anybody?

so just automate the punch with preroll? what about multiple lyrics..keeping the flow during record like adats for god's sake...

is drive spacee the cost of convience with quickpunch..??????

Quickpunch does that. That's it. If you have some spare time you can consolidate your audio later to save disk space. (sorry, it's called compact audio). Or as, said, if you know where to puch in, you can put your cursor there and make a pre roll.

Last time I checked, Quick Punch does exactly THAT...enables record ONLY when you hit the Record (3) key.
You can play back whatever you need to listen to, and enable Record on the fly by hitting that key.

hey drew,
you should check that out..do a play back from some random spot before.. and punch in, then you can extend the region back to the point of you hit play..

now I Know this has saved my ass a couple times but it really is eating space.

it looks like compact it is..

any other ideas?

QuickPunch is perfect just the way it is IMO -- disk space is cheap -- after you've recorded and comped your tracks, simply consolidate the track, back up your work that night, and the next morning remove unused (delete the extra files)... if you feel you need the drive space.

The setting pre roll methodology may hurt you if you want to build a crossfade on the punch point tho' - unlike QuickPunch's normal behaviour, it just drops into record right at the punch point, so there won't be any data in front of the punch point to create a fade.

I love this feature !!!. It gives you the ability to "inroll" a punch point. It gives me the flexibility of chosing the punch point later... at any point during the recording or mixing stage.

it however does get disabled if you don't use quickpunch. Use the regular punch-in method bu manually setting a point and using pre-roll.

compact command will clean up the drive space

It's a little hard to sympathize with that kind of complaint being as how cheap hard drives are these days. You can get like 120Gig drive for $200. Compared to the cost of a TDM system..... Recording during play is one of the most important features of quickpunch. Just clean up at the end of your sessions, its like a two stroke operation.
