Default Server Solution for Video and Audio Editing

Hi,

I am putting together (probably) 3 edit stations that will edit both audio and video. Thinking I'd setup a central server. Haven't decided on NLE's, but it could be AVID. Certainly PT.

Video editing will be light, and the pieces will be short in length -- 2-3 minutes. But there will be MANY videos to make. And, post for other team members. Either on Frame IO or similar.

Is SNS still a good player in 2017? SNS EVO?

Don't want to spend a ton, but have a Pro budget. Also would like something relatively easy to setup and administer.

Thoughts appreciated!

Check out Avid's new offerings. They'll work with most NLEs and not just Avid.

SNS Evo is still a good option. I have had a lot of positive experience with them and their support. Been very reliable and minimal amounts of fuss if set up correctly.

I was recently looking into this for a friend. They actually did have heavy video needs, editing 4k. But they too only needed 3 workstations and limited budget.

I thought this looked pretty great, but i'm still looking into it. Downside is its not expandable, but for the price/performance seems like a bargain.

Thanks for the responses so far!

I am trepidatious about an AVID product as they have a tendency to suddenly and without warning abandon it. Then again, if it is installed and works, it may be all I need for several years until that side of the business evolves. SNS has been around a long time which instills some confidence. Accusys Raid looks interesting.

Abandon it? Such as what other than a twenty year old controller?

Avid has been in the server business for 17 years and SNS has for 19 years.

I'm using the ISIS at the studio with PT, Premiere, FCPX, Media Composer and DCP Creator...works great and easy to set up and maintain.
