Does Waves say, "You pay $6300 or no deal"?

Of course not. There is Horizon ($3500 MSRP), Diamond ($2500 MSRP), Platinum ($1600 MSRP), Gold ($800 MSRP), ...

What if you only really want vocal-oriented plugins and are willing to spend $600 tops? There is Waves Vocal Bundle for $600 (MSRP). You spend the most you are willing to spend and Waves gladly takes your money. And you are happy, because, compared to buying Mercury or any of the higher priced bundles, you got a deal and you paid for only what you needed.

What if you only want the single Waves Tune plugin and do not care for the full Vocal Bundle and are not willing to spend $600 for it? Waves will gladly sell you Waves Tune a la carte for $400 (MSRP).

That is how price discrimination works. The selling firm creates an incentive for the buyer to give up the maximum he/she is willing to pay. This occurs for all consumers from those willing to spend a lot all the way down to those only willing to spend a little. It is more profitable for the selling firm. At each pricing tier, the buyer is willing to pay this amount and has no regrets because he/she gets what he/she wants and is willing to pay for. Win/win.

Waves sells enough bundles and individual plugins to make your head spin. The reason is that it is in Waves' best interest to do so. If that were not the most profitable strategy, Waves would have abandoned it long ago.

Please don't conclude that I am suggesting that Avid price each individual feature separately. That would get unwieldy very quickly. But the title of this thread is about more rather than fewer toolkits. IMHO, a few more pricing options would be better for Avid and better for Avid's customers.

Win/win.
Idea scale anyone

Well truly if they are utilizing the info from idea scale then that's the perfect forum for these ideas (or am I a simpleton and high on optimism)

I heard that they used idea scale for some of the features in PT11 so why not?

I am sure they are paying attention to this forum as well

And what company doesn't like the idea of its customers saying "I would love to give you more money"

Cause that's what we are saying - give me features and I will give you money - not hardware kinda money but money none the less

Exactly!

I was just giving you a hard time. I think Ideascale is just a distraction to keep the monkeys occupied - like the "suggestion box" at some places I've worked - but you're probably right. No offence intended. Not being sarcastic.

Actually what you are saying is : adapt your offer to the market rather than trying to adapt the market to your offer and we will come...

And a major part of the market is saying that HEAT on a Native system would show up as a highly viable option for a whole bunch of P Tools users. A whole s__tload of us would most likely jump on the Native bandwagon of the future if certain artificial restrictions were removed from the present Avid software offerings. Is this just plain old common sense or am I just crazy? Of course this statement is aimed at anyone from Avid that might be following this thread.

Ideascale comment = +1 on the chuckle scale from me ;-)

I'm chuckling at memories of the webinar video, the section in which the Avid marketing guy said, proudly and with chest puffed out .... something like .... If you look at the top 5 or 6 ideas on ideascale, well we've implemented most of them ... ROFLOL

Customer focused or what?!

I liked that (but maybe I'm still high on optimism) but the only problem with that is most of those ideas were ancient
