Radio Voice Effect
Hi. I was wondering if anyone how I can make my voice sound like it's coming out from a radio. I use Pro Tools at school, and only access to the Equalizer and Reverb options. Thanks!

Re: Radio Voice Effect
Well, the easiest way to do that is with plug-ins like Cosmonaut Voice or Izotope Vinyl(Free download at Izotope's website).
But if you only have access to EQ and reverb, I guess you're kinda stuck with more low-fi options. Worldizing, as was mentioned, is the best way in that case!! |

Re: Radio Voice Effect
Its really not that hard. Just roll off all the bottom end multiple times and roll off the high alot as well. Boost the high mids a whole bunch. It also helps if you can throw a little distortion on it. If you can record it with a regular dynamic mike, like a 58m, that would make it easier.

Re: Radio Voice Effect
nobody mentioned compression and limitiing- the shame...
The EQ is important, but proximity effect (Barry White-izing) is a big part of a radio announcer effect- I would use a dynamic like an RE20 or Sennheiser 421 and route that through first a limiter, with a mid threshold setting then do the EQ'ing- the limiting is designed to give the audio it's best chance of sounding good once it goes throught the transmission chain (where it is again limited, to prevent distortion) It you are going for an "Old-Time" radio effect, starting out with a carbon mic is best, then using Vinyl or Low-fi to add a bit of brittleness and distortion to the sound. good luck... cm

Re: Radio Voice Effect
for sure, as charles say, the right EQ, andf heavy-ish compression. and then add Tape-Head for some spice! it has more push than PHOENIX and is cheap. (i like Phoenix for more musical things)
