Default Cat 5e 350mHz or better ethernet cable?

Talking about cat5e for S3L...

"Cat 5e 350mHz or better ethernet cable" What does that exactly mean?

Especially the 350 mhz part? I see most common cables have listed their signal loss data for up to 100 mhz, or maybe 200 mhz.

Found THIS but still don't get it

Hi,

It means the cable has been tested to 350 MHz. We've seen cases where cable rated for only 100 MHz is not suitable for the GigE used in the S3L system.

Thanks Sheldon. Are SC48 and S3L similar in requirements for the cable? Would it be safe to think that if a cable has been working fine with SC48 it will also work fine with S3L?

Hi Kristo,

Both systems share the same 350 MHz spec, so a cable that works for one should work with the other.

we just took delivery on (2) S3L's. one with just a single stage box, one with two. it's not a really big deal, but it would have been nice to get a couple of these cables in the boxes. sort of surprised that there weren't any at all, but i did know that was going to happen. even 3' so i can get the builds underway would have been helpful. have been too busy lately to finish this part.

anyway, does avid have a recommended brand? can you maybe share what brand was used most often during tests? i've looked into this and frankly, it feels all over the map in terms of what people think is quality cable. would love to know what you guys were using for both short cables and spools during testing.

thanks again sheldon for you quick reply about the power specs last week. you saved the day.
