Default Three problems since 8.0.4 - Sandra report included.

Hello,

I'm having problem currently with 003 Rack with PTLE 8.0.4cs2.

8.0.3 was crashing when users without administrative permission on the machine were logged in. So, I updated to 8.0.4 hoping the permissions problem was fixed but immediately started having problems. Yesterday, with nothing MORE to lose, I updated to 8.0.4cs2 - still experiencing the problem.

THE PROBLEM: SINCE INSTALLING 8.0.4 and then cs2 I HAVE NO INPUT.

I did not have this problem prior to 8.0.4.

Within Pro Tools and other software (WaveCapture and Pure Data) I
have playback functionality. (Audio playback that is... I haven't tested MIDI playback.)

But I have no 'record' ability. I can't record MIDI instruments; I can't record audio via any of the inputs. Nothing shows up in the volume meters of a track. The LEDs on the 003 appears to indicate that audio is being received but that's it.

Please, I could use some help. Sandra report here:

are you installing as adminstrator?? have you done a COMPLETE uninstall and reinstall?? this problem has to be related to your system somehow, it is not widespread and seems pretty isolated.

Hello,

I am installing as an administrator.

I have NOT done a complete uninstall and reinstall. You're referring to just Digi software right? Not the entire operating system, etc.?

If I must uninstall and reinstall, then I'm tempted to revert to 8.0.3 and just login all my users as administrators on the machine. 8.0.4 doesn't appear to be very reliable.

Also note, this thread indicates that I'm not the only person suffering from this sort of problem: http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=277986

Since we spoke last, I have uninstalled the Pro Tools software and plug-ins completely. I then REinstalled Pro Tools 8.0 and updates + plug-ins up to 8.0.3cs2. The system is working again. I will NOT upgrade to 8.0.4 or 8.0.4cs2.

I am convinced that this problem I was having may be related to my system's specific configuration but I'm of the opinion that the *CAUSE* is not within my system. If Pro Tools works properly up to 8.0.3 but 8.0.4 does NOT, obviously the key to the problem is within the software.

I remember a post regarding Vista and SP2 and the fix was to install/run Pro Tools in Vista SP1 compatibility.

Hi welshevo,

Thanks for that link - it's interesting.

However, I've decided I'll stay at 8.0.3cs2 until I hear that 8.0.(next) is stable.
