Arpegiator on midi track

I want to use an arpegiator on midi i am playing. Some virtual synths have them built in but I want to use an apregitor to send out to my outboard gear.
please help. I looked on youtube and the only demo was terrible and not what I have in mind here. Pro Tools seems light years behind Logic as far a midi so I am wondering if the new versions try to even the score a bit.
