Default Mac Audio AND ProTools thru HDX at the same time

I would love to be able to route the audio from iTunes, etc through an output on the HD I/O while ProTools is running. Is it possible?

HDX, HD I/O, macOS Sierra

No, but you can route your computer audio through the app. PITA, but that's it.

or you can buy this.

Another workaround option is to physically connect the audio out from the Mac (preferably via digital optical or use an external A/D convertor) to inputs on the 192 and assign those inputs to an aux channel or an audio channel on input only mode.

If you have a separate monitor controller, you can run the Mac audio output, digital or analog into another input of the controller.
We do this in three different places and it works really well.
