midi merge timing question

I wondered for a while how to merge MIDI notes so that they retain the original timing, such as slightly after the beat.

I have googled this a lot, but probably haven't posed the query correctly.

On the attached I want the notes on the right (circled in red) to match the timing of the notes on the left (boxed in green).

Is this possible? What setting do I have to change or tool must I use?

You can extract the timing from notes with Beat Detective, save it to the clipboard or to disk, then quantize other notes with the extracted template.

Or, use relative grid mode, and Alt+drag the notes over to copy them.

EDIT: I mention relative grid mode since it looks like you're after an exact copy.

Thanks, Stig. This seems to be the best bet because yes, I want an exact copy. It's an offbeat drum fill that I want use in other sections of the same song.

if you want to copy and then merge paste, i find the easiest way is to just add an extra note that is on the grid and copy that along with your selection just so you can line it up again, and then delete the extra note. if that makes sense. but yeah, relative grid is great if it's not too far to drag.
