I hear it keeps getting deleted from here, but do yourself a favor and search for "Pro Tools 2019.5 behind the scenes" on Youtube. I have a feeling this post itself will self-destruct in mere moments.

It is very funny, indeed!

...or, is it? The joke is on us who keep coughing up 400 dollars each year to feed the AVID high rollers. I say, no salaries and definitely no bonuses until we have a reasonable bug free ProTools.

It's funny because it's true.

WARNING: SATIRE AHEAD.

I will always remember how grateful I felt back in the days of PT5, when they graciously removed several features already present in the program, and then re-sold them back to anyone interested, for a mere $1,500, under the name 'DV Toolkit'. It was a great way to reclaim some "powerful features for audio post users"! I can only imagine what a CPU hog that SMPTE timeline option must've been, so it only made sense to have us pay more for that.

When I'm sending a mix out to a client, I always bounce to disk in real time and listen to it while it's happening - it's my final check. So for 2019.8 I'd really like Pro Tools to make its mind up once and for all whether plugin windows are frozen or working during the bounce. Some plugins are like the mix window meters - dead - and some 'try' to animate. I'm a big user of the MAAT DR meter which sort of half works during a bounce.

I can't see why it's not possible for Pro Tools to have everything happening just as normal during a bounce - it's only like having two tracks in record after all.

It's not about being possible or not, I think the original idea was to freeze most gui action (except metering plugins) to give you chance (=force) to listen to the mix with your ears only.

That's as may be but I'm mixing a jazz album where some of the tracks are 15 minutes long. Having done the actual mix, I'm watching the DR meter to check I've got matching average levels in similar passages between tracks and similar DRi's. If the the track is 15 minutes long I might as well be saving time and bounce the thing at the same time. Which is what I do - except that DR meter is jerky and lags behind during a bounce.

Similarly, Ozone 8 Maximizer. In this case I want it to just kiss the limiter at peak moments so I'm watching that too - and it stutters and stalls during a bounce.

Maybe it's a problem with the plugins mentioned? I have used Waves Dorrough meter earlier and don't remember it being laggy at all. Of course, I've been using a hardware Dorrough last few years so might not remember it right.
