Default Ram Upgrade- PT12 dead in water.

Hi All,
My system was running fine with PT 12.5.2 and OS 10.12.6 until I tried to upgrade the RAM from 16GB to 32GB. Mac wasn't seeing two of the RAM slots so I needed to clean and reseat card until I saw the 32 GB say ok. Now PT 12 is not usable. PT boots but takes about 10 minutes to open a small session with zero plugs. Pressing play gives me a video engine error.

I went back to the old 16GB of RAM and trashed the PT prefs. Zapped pRAM. Still no good. Same problems. What's next? Reinstall 12.5.2? Please help. Thanks!

RAM- 16GB

sometimes if the RAM is not ALL the same Model it will give you issues .. sorry to hear you are having issues ..

have you gone to your Recovery Disk and Repaired your disk in first aid ... remembering that we do not have the Repair Permissions option in Sierra anymore ..

there is not much to do ... pRam as you tried - how many Chimes did you do ??

.. you can also try apple opton O & F .. used to help but not sure if it will anymore ..

Thanks for responding. It's OWC RAM. Matched sets both 16 GB and 32 GB. pRAM two chimes. I do have a bootable clone drive that I made with CCC that I thought had 10.9 on it as I went from 10.9 to 10.12. I booted with this drive. PT works fine but in About This Mac it still says 10.12.6 (?).

Also, be aware that if you're upgrading the RAM in a 5,1 even though the RAM might be 1333MHz, if you fill all 8 slots, it will slow down to 1066MHz.

I'm pretty sure it runs in triple channel mode, so you're best to do 3 sticks on each side and leave two slots empty.

My Quad Core only has four slots for RAM which I thought was the norm. I still went back to the old 4x4s after things went south.
