mykhal,

Just thought I'd let you know that the D-Verb tests on my GA-EP35-DS3P was with PTLE 7.0

I like your OC strategy of getting as many CPU megahertz as possible at stock or less voltage. So, with that strategy in mind, I have been working on testing for my final setup. So far I checked out 3.15 ghz at 1.80-1.9275, which is both sides of stock voltage and it did fine (ran Prime95 for 7 hours without error). Right now I'm testing 3.24 ghz at the same voltage and it's looking good so far. If it proves to be stable, that will be the setup I'll keep. I already checked 3.33 ghz at the same voltage and it didn't pan out.

Obviously, Digi does not support Over Clocking! But many here have done considerable testing to insure their system is totally stable. I'm willing to accept that responsibility and suffer the consequences of all the extra power I'll have to deal with!!!

very cool. and i'm sure you meant 1.180-1.19275 i don't know if you looked back at my OC tests but it's some good info there if you choose...FSB speed, FSB strap settings, multipliers, etc. good luck and keep us posted

mykhal,

Sorry, I did get my numbers a bit mixed up. I'm running 1.280, with some temporary increases to 1.296. My stock voltage is 1.285. Yeah, at 1.80 vCore I would expect my CPU to have a very short life.

john, don't hesitate to really under volt it. i went from 1.2275 to 1.1675. just like my memory is rated at 2.3v but i'm runnin' it at 1.95v. at the worst, it just won't boot. and again, CPU-Z was a good tool to see what voltage things were really runnin' at. 'cause even tho i set things at let's say 1.1750v initially, i saw the system was runnin' 1.1475v. so i kept takin' it down as far as possible, as long as it remained stable while DVERB testin' or in your case PRIME95. hope that helps

mykhal,
Well, I did give it a try and was pleasantly surprized. I lowered the CPU to 9x333=3.000 and lowered the vCore voltage to 1.2123, which was then measured by Cpu-Z @ 1.184-1.20. That does bring the working temps down a bit more with my cores running 50-45-45-50 during a D-Verb test. The result is a 25% processing power increase over stock speed with reduced voltage and heat. I can go for that! Thanks for the tip! I'll leave it here for awhile and see how it goes.

nice man. those are excellent temps for a dverb test too!!! yep, all about reducin' heat as much as possible!!!

Question Hardware disadvantaged NEWBIE needs Guidance!!!

Hi Guys. I've just recently joined the Digidesign family by buying a Mbox2 Factory pack. It's only just become available in my country (South Africa) in the last month. (We never even got the first Mbox here.)

Now I've been trying to build a pc for it but all the recommended chipsets on Digi's site are UNAVAILABLE in SA. The Asus P4C800-E and the Intel DP965LT has long since been discontinued here. We don't even get Dell Precisions, Dimensions or HP workstations.

The only one I've managed to get is the Gigabyte 945GCM board (because of the 945 chipset) which doesn't even support Quad core. I've sent many mails to Digi's support but haven't recieved a single reply. So now I'm looking at which chip to get in the Core 2 Duo range.

Does anyone have some advice? How good are the E8200 and the E8400 Wolfdale chips for PT? Does anyone know this GA-945GCM Board?

Well if its what you got it then give it a go.

I had a ASUS P5LD2 with a 2 GHz E2180 Pentium Dual Core and it gave up 99 Dverbs. I'm not familier with the GB board you mention but it will probably work just fine.

Thumbs up

Thanks, Sunburst. I haven't found ANY other chipset options so far; so will HAVE to make do. (Hopefully it will work.)

Are those Wolfdale CPUs compatible with ProTools7.3 & Mbox2? Have you heard anything about them? Or should I just stick with the 1066FSB CPUs like the E7200 & E6420?
