Default How do you roll back from 8.0.4 to 8.0.3? HELP!!!

Hey Everyone,
As I've read quite a bit on the forum, there seems to be a LOT of issues with 8.0.4. Last night I started working on a project that I need to finish soon, and for whatever reason, I was getting some glitches, where PT would hang up here and there. So I thought, "gee that new 8.0.4 version is out, I should probably upgrade, maybe that'll clear this all up". So I downloaded and installed it, and HOLY CRAP!!! and I do mean CRAP! After the install I opened PT and nothing but problems. I keep getting the famous "audio engine play startup deadline was missed" message, and nothing seems to work for any longer than a few mouse clicks. I press space bar, and it lights up the play AND stop buttons on the transport bar, and won't play anything. So after wasting my entire night last night trying to get to the point where I could at least play some audio (which never happend), I finally decided to roll back to 8.0.3; however, I discovered... I don't know how to do that?....

So if someone could give me a quick tutorial on how to roll back to the way it "was" I'd be very greatful! I have a project on the go, and it needs to have approval from the client within the next day or so.

Thanks in advance!
Cheers
J

Fire up your disk imaging software and restore the backup that you made before the upgrade.

You did make a backup of your working system before upgrading, didn't you??

Otherwise, my advice is going to be "Uninstall Pro Tools completely, restart (several times if necessary) then re-install the other version.

Ok, So I DIDN'T do a backup... my bad; however, I will be from now on.

Here's what I did. I used the system restore function in windows, and rolled back my C drive to a day before I installed the update. It worked, but it un-installed my InterLok drivers, so a few plug ins wouldn't work (All I need to do is go to paceap.com and reinstal them). So then I just un-installed PT and re-installed PT 8, without any updates. I launched it last night and threw as much as I could at it and NO hangups! So I think I'll stick with PT 8 and no upgrades... seems to work for me, besides... the next time I want to upgrade, I'm gonna have to do a new OS anyway (I'm on XP SP3) so at that point I'll probably just do a whole new computer, it'll be time for a new one byt then anyway.

Thanks for your help, and to others looking to install 8.0.4. My advice..... DON'T!!!

Just cause it didn't work for you doesn't mean it wont work for others. My install of pro tools is MUCH more stable with 8.0.4 now. Same with quite a few other LE users. Perhaps you haven't completely optimized your system?

And you guys that are "golden" and "stable" are not having the Pro Tools placing sound early issue? You should test it.

Because for me, that would be a no-go for 8.0.4 on Windows, and if I didn't have a mac to record with in 8.0.4 (since it doesn't have the problem) I would be rolling back to 8.0.3 in a heartbeat.

Actually, that may be a step in the right direction searching for a fix.

You should try the scenario posted in that thread, and then post your results there for comparison.

We are using the 8.0.3/4b drive as 8.0.4 (though otherwise stable) is now unuseable for us due to this issue.

8.04 has been stable for me but as mentioned above, due to the Early Timeline issue I hve rolled back to 8.03.
