I noticed that your Bios version is F5. I am running F4 (it shouldn't make a difference)
The other thing I noticed is that all of your drives are Seagates. Are they the 7200.11 series? If so you should go to seagate.com and check that they are not from the affected run of bad HD"s.

When my seagate went down, I could not record for more than 30 secs. Have you disabled RAID on your MB? Have you disabled your LAN? Are you using a 003 or an MBOX. If you are using an MBOX have you tried a different USB port?

Good point on the Seagate drives and the USB port(for Mbox users). Since your system does well at 1024, maybe some other details need checking. The drives; all formatted NTFS and BASIC? The RAM is installed in the correct 3 slots(all the same color)? I am also running F4 BIOS for what that's worth. Just for the sake of troubleshooting, I would remove the backup drive until you have the basic setup running good. When you did your build, did you install all the stuff on the Gigabyte disc? There is stuff on there that you do not want installed. I installed only the chipset, network and sound drivers(I think).

Thanks for the replies.
My interface is a 002R

OK, bios version. I did an upgrade in the hope that it might solve the problem (which it didn't). I don't know what version I had before that.

The brand new drive I got to test is a 7022.11, but I'll have to pull my normals drives out tonight to see what they are. I have had them running in my old system for a couple of years though. They're not slimline like this new one.
I can't find on the Seagate site anything about the bad run of HDDs. Do you have a direct link?

RAID is disabled. LAN I have disabled in Device Manager, but not bios. Will try it in bios and see what happens.

Drives are all NTFS and BASIC.

RAM is in the slots of the same color.

I've tried removing drives, changing SATA ports, SATA cables etc. All to no avail.

With the Gigabyte disk, I did the express install. So whatever is in there is on.

When i first built my old AMD dual core machine, I had to install that daul core hot fix.
Is there anything like that for the i7 I should have installed?

Thanks again for your help guys.

"With the Gigabyte disk, I did the express install. So whatever is in there is on."

I have a Gigabyte P35 motherboard and I noticed that the Xpress Install also loads two utilities that caused problems with my system:
-Easy Tune
-Dynamic Energy Saver

To get PT to work well I had to uninstall both. You should be able to do this in the Control Panel/Add-Delete Programs.

To avoid this problem in the future, you can install just the drivers that you desire by designating them with a "check".

I also believe Xpress installed the SATA Raid Driver. I also did not check this to be installed, but then I also disabled the RAID SATA feature in the Bios. Good Luck.

Thanks John

Yeah I already noticed that Easy Tune really screws things up. PT wouldn't even play with that going.
Will check on the energy saver thing tonight.

The plot has thickend a bit.
Went in at lunch time to try a couple of things.....
Disabling LAN in the bios had no affect.

Then I realised I had 2 Iloks and the Command8 plugged into a USB hub, so I took the hub out of the equation.
Loaded up PT, record enabled 16 tracks, and it worked like a charm........ONCE!
The Command8 needed to be set up again in the peripherals menu.
Then she just went back to not working.
Uninstalled the Command8 thinking that must be the problem....... nope, still won't work!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... FRUSTRATING!

OK, trashing the databases and prefs did nothing.....

HOWEVER.......

Limiting the recording time did. As soon as I gave it a time limit I was away.
Do you guys have a limit set, or are you on all space available?
