Just thought I'd mention it in case (you might be aware of this already) 128 in 88.2 has the same delay (in ms) as 64 in 44.1.

Right... which is why it makes no sense that I can run 48K at a 64 buffer with only occasional problems, but 88.2 with a 128 buffer causes constant errors.

1) What H/W Buffer are you tracking with? Is there a buffer where you don't get the errors?

2) What is the low and high reading on the DCP Tester? Average?
Tried a new firewire cable, but no difference.

Also ran the DCP test again... absolute maximum was 66, but that was rare. It was mostly less than 50... anywhere from single digits up to 40's typically.

Well this just keeps getting better and better. Not only does Pro Tools still not work after a complete reinstall, but now I can't use my Waves plugins, and it looks like I might have to pay $300+ just to reinstall plugins I bought years ago. Wow. Can this get any better?

have you tried pulling out all the plugins, deleting your databases and prefs, restarting and then launching pt????? i think we had talked about that but not 100% ??

Yeah, that was one of the first steps. And reinstalling the OS tends to delete the databases and prefs.

of course, but i am coming from, after your plugs are pulled THEN resetting the prefs. the amount of problems from plugins alone can be mind blowing.

if money is no object, and you have built several systems and each one gives you problems, perhapse you should consider getting a Creation Station from Sweetwater. They are covered with a long warrenty and free tech support and they can check your system Online when you are having problems, and if they cant fix it online you can ship it to them and they fix it for free. Sure they are overpriced, but if thats what works for you, its priceless. They now have i7 Creation Stations, and they will install everything for you, ready to use , guranteed problem free out of the box.

Your latency number look good to me, so I would say this is not the core of your problem.

I would also benchmark your HDs with ATTO, or another utility. I recently benched my older 32 GB Raptor and found that the writes and reads were slower then on a regular 7200 speed WD drive. They were all small sessions on the drive , so I ran into no problems... but I was surprised. As part of searching for a solution, I would include installing and recording to another HD.

Right, but I hadn't installed any plugins yet. All the tests I've mentioned so far were done before a single third-party plugin was installed.
