Problem with maximum Voices/Tracks in Pro Tools 2020.9

2020.9.1 is released and should have solved the voice problem. Does it? I have no standard Pro Tools at hand right now.

I just downloaded and installed Protools 2020.9.1. Opening a 44.1KHz session, I can verify that it says 256 voices under resources and counts stereo tracks as two voices. I don't have a project that goes beyond 128 voices to check if it disables any voices, so someone else will need to verify that.

So, does this mean that at 44.1KHz or 48KHz we can have 256 mono tracks (I hope so)?

I think previously we could only have up to 128 voices, with a mono track counted as one voice and a stereo track also counted as one voice.

Well, you can have maximum 128 mono tracks.

And 128 stereo tracks.

I think it's a bit bad that you cannot have 256 mono tracks.

As you see in my screen capture it says I have 128 voices left after I put in 128 mono tracks. But it says 256 / 256 when I put 128 stere tracks...

Bummer....

Just so I'm clear. It says you have 128 mono tracks, but you have 128 of 256 voices left. That sounds like you can have more mono tracks, no?

No.

Standard software can have 128 tracks (mono or stereo) in the session, but has been given:

• 256 voices @48k
• 128 voices @96k
• 64 voices @192k

Whichever comes first, 128 tracks or given voice limit, is the limitation.

Yeah. I just tested and the old limits are still there. Too bad, but it matches what was advertised, so it is what it is.

It’s crippled down in a complicated manner, isn’t it?
I guess they will offer voice packs for vanilla either.
