Default CPU problem (ever since ....)

What's up,

I formatted my laptop and installed pro tools again and ever since I formatted I've been getting CPU errors. I'm opening mixed sessions that I've opened before and I get that error. I can't even bounce the song down ...... I've never had this problem. Any ideas what it could be? I think I had SP1 for Vista before I formatted but I don't now. Could that be it? Should I do some updates for my VAIO?

thanks

Pro Tools 7.4 cs 9
Error 9128

(Is there a way I could disable the volume knobs from moving up and down while bounce is in progress?)

IIRC, if you have any volume automation, the volume knobs will move.

If you post a Sandra or PC Wizard report, that would be very helpful. See the Help Us Help You and Genberal Troubleshooting Stickies for instructions. We don't have any information to go on.

Cheers,

well the first thing that jumps out at me is that you only have 1 drive. protools needs 2 seperate drives - 1 to record to and 1 system (for storing program and plugs)

digi say themselves that using the same drive for both can cause detremental issues.

Is it a firewire drive? USB external drives are not recommended or approved/supported by Digidesign. Does it have one of the approved Oxford chipsets in the enclosure? Does the firewire card in the computer have an approved TI chipset?

Cheers,

There used to be so take a look thru the preferences pages(I would but I am not at the studio right now). I think it may have been called "silent mode" or "silent mix". This assumes you are referring to the actual faders on your control surface. If by chance you meant the virtual faders in the edit window, you can disable automation(hold the Alt key while you turn Auto off on any track and all will be turned off).
