Pro Tools 12 - Video engine won't launch

Have you tried moving the video file to another drive or internal. And have you tried transcoding to ProRes or DNxHD ?? I am on my phone now so sorry if I cannot remember if u r Mac or PC

Yes, I tried moving the video file to an internal drive as well as trying a completely new video file. Same thing happens. Engine Launch pop-up box seems to finish loading, but nothing happens. I even let it sit for a few hours. Nada.

DNXHD or PRORES is recommended for video encoding format to be use with PT12 and H264 sometimes causes problems.

convert the vid then try launching pro tools and create create an empty session, then enable video engine in the SETUP --> PLAYBACK ENGINE menu.

quite the current empty session and try opening up your session with the vid again again.

That is strange, the video is provided by Avid for Certification of PT 12. If they knew that there was a problem using the H264 codec, then that would be an oversight on their part.

I would have to do some searching on conversion from H264 to DNXHD or PRORES.

install the avid codec pack from the pro tools install and use the mpeg streamclip app to convert to DNXHD format.

i found nothing wrong with the video as H.264 ... i tested in pro tools 12 ... so it is not a codec thing ...

i doubt Avid would let this video out if it did not work .. Avid website H.264 (Performance may vary)

but this is not perfromance obviously ... something is missing !!!

Also, on a suggestion from a friend (Hi Josh! Sorry, John!), I opened up Logic Pro v9 and opened the movie and it worked just fine. So, hopefully that should mean that it's not my video card.

But, that might mean that my Mac is not supported when it comes to the PT Video Engine.

Quit PT
Use "PT Prefs" http://petegates.com/pg-pt-prefs.html
to trash Databases (check the last 7 boxes if you don't want to waste too much time checking which makes what)
Restart PT
