Downloaded Pro Tools 12. Pro Tools is now asking for iLok USB that I didn't get.

So I just bought the education discounted Pro Tools 12 through Sweet Water through the download version. I downloaded everything and set up all the accounts. Well when I pulled up Pro Tools 12 they asked for the iLok license for Pro Tools 12, which I have in the iLok license manager application on my Mac. However, it says I need it on a usb. I have the license and I bought the software. Do I also have to shell out 40 dollars for some usb that I have to transfer the license to just to get Pro Tools to work? I don't understand why if I bought the license for the software why I have to have this specific usb that's blank just so I can transfer the license from my computer to it. Is there any way around spending the 40 dollars for it or am I going to have to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, you need to buy an iLok. The Pro Tools license has to reside on it.

If you did not have an iLok you should have bought the boxed version

It comes with an iLok and is the same price.

You will notice that it does state an iLok is required on the Sweetwater page

Software is generally not returnable, but I would contact Sweetwater and see if something can be worked out.

If this is the first time you are using Pro Tools you will find that in the future an iLok will be absolutely necessary, not just for Pro Tools, but for the hundreds/thousands of plugins that also REQUIRE an iLok that you will no doubt be looking to add to your toolkit down the road.

An iLok v2 is generally $49, but you can purchase Slate RC-Tube for $49 and have an iLok v2 included, MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE ILOK VERSION!!!!

Okay thank you very much! Atleast I was able to buy the iLok with that plugin so it wasn't 50 dollars just for the usb.
