Default Can of Worms 2002

Ok. I'm gonna be blunt. I'm thinking of going HD recording and mixing. I need some pretty straight-up replies please.

Topic: Plug-in Usage

Quite simply I need to know how many plugs you can cram onto a HD card, or how much power various plugs take up on HD.

Can I slam analog channel on all 48 of my audio tracks and then follow up with 10 rennaisance compressors, and then add the odd Sony Oxford EQ along with perhaps 2 delays and a mod FX?

Basically I'm interested in McDSP, Waves, Bombfactory and GRM Tools.

Can anyone out there with HD run a few tests and how many of each plugs you can fill a session with. Say, try Filterbank on one session and see if you can squeeze 30 on there or until it maxes out. It would be nice to get some definitive plug-in usage guide at last.

Also, will plug-in usage double up from 44.1 to 96?

Cheers,

dj

i tested a while back on my mix plus system (one core card and a farm card) how many filterbank eq's i could have going within' a session and i remember that it was something like 108 filterbank eq's. mind you that i didn't have any other plug ins goin'. so obviously on a hd system you would get alot more.

tbird - cheers for the reply. Can you remember what Filterbank EQ it was?

ie. E2/4/6, P2/4/6, F1/2 or the B1?

Or doesn't it really matter?

i'm sorry for the late response DJBURT. the filterbank eq that i tested was the E4 which uses about 8% per instance. the P4 is 8% per instance as well. the E6 or P4 is about 14% per instance, whereas the RENAISSANCE EQ/4 band (which i love as well) uses up about 18% per instance.rember that you'll also be able to use the rtas versions as well which will give you even more power. i hope this helps brutha'

you get twice the track/plug count
@ 44.1 or 48k

than if you were:

1) running @ 88.2 or 96k

2) using a mix system
