Default Formatting USB Drive

Can anyone help. My USB drive is acting weird. My imac says the drive needs to be formatted. Disk repair can't fix it. Does anyone have any ideas? Need something for backup until I get my new backup drive.

First off, are you aware that USB drives are not supported for Pro Tools? No problem using it as a backup drive, but if Disk Repair can't fix it, maybe its DOA? Hopefully a Mac genius will have some ideas for you as I work mostly on the PC side.

If you are just using it for backup on the Mac, format it in Disk Utility:
Erase tab >
Volume Format: Mac OS Extended (journaled)

Click "Erase"

This will erase all data on the drive, so if there is anything on there that you do not have backed up and need to retrieve, you don't want to erase/reformat the drive.

Yes, just backup. I got reformatted. Plugged it into my old powerbook G4. The disk utility saw it. I erased the drive, reformatted, plugged back into my imac and it worked. That was close. Thanks for your help out there.
