Default clip light & tracking

my question is....is it ok for clip indicator to come on when tracking in pre fader metering at one spot in the track or is the track not useable because of that in the real recording world? the rest of the track the levels stay under clipping but in one spot on the track it lights the light my old machine the lights came on 6db prior to actual clipping i believe...thanks chas

there is much discussion on this.. try a search.
in general, if it sounds good, it is good...
don't let numbers and knobs and lights and things tell you what sounds good, let your ears do it.

of course it's best to avoid overs in the digital world but if it only lasts for a fraction of a second and you can't hear any nastiness, there's nothing to worry about. don't let a very minor 'clip' get in the way of a good take!

I have a question about this i have not seen answered. i have an octopre with a brick wall limiter built in, but on some tracks, even if my limiter doesnt light up on my octopre, sometimes the clip light lights up on a track. i wouldnt think that a digital source could send a clipped signal first of all, but also it has a limiter and doesnt sound clipped. I know it should be fine if i cant hear it, but at what point does the clip light light up on pt???
