Default sudden + serious issue w/ PT8 + 003 surface

Never seen this one before: everything appears to work fine, until I adjust one of the rotary (pan) knobs for a track...not only does it not control pan, but now I cannot control track level with the faders? Even worse, I can no longer control pan or level in the PT GUI with my mouse?

Restart Pro Tools, everything works fine again...until I touch a pan knob again, and it starts all over. Trashed all Prefs. and databases, no change.

I've ran through all the utility tests on the 003 control surface, and everything seems fine. Only two recent changes: I updated to the latest CS of PT 8, and I installed a Tranzport control. The latter seemed suspect, but removing it had no effect. I'm currently rolling back to the original PT 8 install, keeping my fingers crossed.

Anyone else ever seen this?

TIA...

Follow up: rolling back to the original (non-CS1) update seems to have fixed this for me, so I'll leave that alone for now.

This is a pretty substantial issue...am I the only one who has run into this?

Brief specs:

Dell Studio desktop w/ Quad Q8200 proc.
XP sp3
6GB RAM (obviously only seeing 4GB on this install, I'm a dual-booter w/ a completely stripped-down XP install just for PT)
Pro Tools 8

This is a know issues with the PT8 cs1 update. Digidesign has removed this update from the download link. As you can imagine, there was quite a lot of noise about this when it was first released. Here is what the link says now:

Pro Tools LE 8.0cs1 Update for Windows

A problem has been discovered with the Pro Tools 8.0cs1 Windows installers (HD, LE, and M-Powered). Various mixer functionality (soloing, muting, panning) is no longer responding correctly. This occurs within Pro Tools and on control surfaces. We have removed the 8.0cs1 Windows installers to address this issue. We will repost them as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience,
Digidesign Customer Support
