Default Avid Omni with 003 factory?

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to keep a 003 for the control surface purpose, and run an Avid Omni in conjunction with it for it's superior A/D and a couple of extra preamps? I't would be great to use the 003 for drums etc...

Thanks much

Omni is an HD interface, and the 003 will not act as a control surface for HD systems.

However, Omni supposedly can be set to be used as a standalone converter, though it's hard to find much info about it. It would still need to be hooked up to an HD system in order to set it up this way. But once you do it, I suppose you could use it via spidf or adat into the 003 with the standard Protools 9.

I wish Avid would give more info on this. The only thing that's mentioned is in the Omni manual, where it's a little side note when it's explaining the standalone mixer settings.

If this can be used as a standalone converter, Avid should hype that up, and make a basic utility software to set it up this way, similar to Apogee Maestro. They'd sell more of them this way.
