Default Why not offer a streamline PT8 upgrade?

I'm running into compatibility issue with various applications which set for their minimum requirement Pro Tools 7.4 or higher. So one looks into upgrades and more or less finds a brand new recording suite. I mean there is a lot of extra stuff on Pro Tools 8 most of us don't need. In many ways we are being asked to repurchase the original software.

Why not offer a streamline version for those who don't need all the extra effects? Many of us are still on 7.3 because we don't see the upgrade to PT8 worth $150. We are more interested in compatibility and support of the software we originally purchased.

The new Air plugs, virtual instruments and elastic time/pitch are worth 10X the small $150 upgrade price. You gotta be kidding right??????

No I'm not kidding. You assume I want or need those plugins. I'm not interested in a new product disguised as an upgrade. I'm only interested in continued compatibility. I don't think that is too much to ask.

I would have rather paid nothing for the upgrade and leave the air plugs out!!!

That would have made me very happy!!!!!

With all respect, if you are not interested in anything new, stay with 7.3. It is stable and doesn’t require any upgrade to remain stable. Many users are still on 6.4 and very satisfied. Why would you or anyone else want to go through all the install hassles and take the CPU hit if you don’t need or want the new features, plug-ins or VIs? Many of us have had to upgrade our entire system just to get it running well. The whole point of PT8 is the features.

Some software designers are testing their new products on later versions of Pro Tools. There's more to the udgrade than just effects. There are certain bug fixes as time goes by that I can no longer address without paying. And who is to say PT8 will be the last word? Why vista8 err pt8 could be scrapped in a few months. I'm being asked to pay $150 because someone was sick of the drapes? If Pro Tool's is so proud of the effects why not sell them separate from the new architecture? These are tough economic times. Not all of us can throw money out the window. Split the cost in some way. If they don't get wise...everytime they hear someone bite into an apple it could be footsteps.

Now you've done it, you've gone and warned them about the apple biters.
