Default Anyone catch this \"Strike\" feature?

Anyone notice this on the "Strike" page:

Includes over 20 GB of 24-bit audio stored in just 5 GB of space via "proprietary lossless compression"

Now I would love to be able to use this "proprietary lossless compression" in PT to archive my sessions. Oh well, hopefully we will see that down the road.

But for now, "Monkey's Audio" lossless compression does it for me. I've used it for years.

I use ALAC, not so much because it makes things smaller, but because 1) PT can audition and import it, and 2) iTunes can use it directly. I'm hoping the next version of PT will be able to bounce to it. On Mac, it might already, I don't know. I can bounce to Windows Media, but I don't think that's the lossless format of it, is it?

But then, you might be talking about compressing a whole session, not just mixes? I've been simply Zipping sessions. Is Monkey's better for that?

Guys,
Is hard drive space really so expensive that we can't just store and exchange full resolution, compatible, un-altered audio files ??
I don't trust any compression scheme for audio. Straight data is a whole different thing..squash the sucker !

Monkey's Audio is better than Zipping sessions. It will compress all the audio in a lossless format. I did try Windows Media Lossless in the past(which PT can import and export) but it was not sample acuurate when expanded, which was weird. I bumped into a few prblems with WMA Lossless and PT LE. That was awhile back though when I tested it.

For now, MA is the top in my book.

I did many many null tests with MA and am confident with it. It is also great for sending sessions via Internet and making that 3rd archive backup on CD or DVD.

MA and Hamachi equals an amazing and free DUC Delivery system. Tried it, works amazing, and free.

Digital audio is straight data. It just happens to contain a lot more complex patterns than data generated in many other ways.

I've done several nul tests on ALAC files, always comes back bit-for-bit. The only trouble I had was when I tried to encode files of mixed bit rates at the same time. That turns out to be a bad idea, at least with iTunes on WinXP. But as long as you keep birds of a feather together, you can do any bit rate and sample rate.

Very nice for delivering large files to Mac users over the web. I often have sets of largely spoken word programs that run 20 minutes to over an hour. You just don't want to upload 6 hrs of masters at once at full CD res to an ftp site, if you can help it. I mean, FedExing it would be faster. The ALAC files are less than 1/3 the size of the AIFFs (due to the material being mostly mono, effectively). Helps a lot.

Monkey's only does WAV files, though. Bummer. Half the sessions I do are AIFF based. I guess I'll still be zipping those, and ALAC for AIFF mixes.
