Default PTLE 6.4 sessions opened in modern PT Express

I posted this last week in the legacy section, but I realize it's really a question for folks who use newer PT software versions, along with the occasional use of older sessions.

original post:

Wow, been years since I've been here (check out my signature--needless to say, I'm no longer using OS 10.3.) I was active in this form back at the turn of the century! So now, three kids and some grey hairs later I'd like to buy a new PT system to replace my 001. I don't have time to do much playing anymore, so the point of this purchase is to get rid of my PowerMac G4 and 001 system and replace it with an Mbox to plug into my new Mac mini. So here's the VERY important question:

Can I easily open up my old PTLE 6.4 sessions in PT Express?

I have very few, if any sessions, with more than 16 stereo tracks. I barely used plugins except the basics like DVerb, compressor, EQ, etc.

Can I just go out and buy an Mbox, load up PT Express on my Mac mini and open my old sessions?

Yes. Pro Tools is backwards compatible i.e newer versions can open sessions created in earlier versions.

You will receive a message that the I/O has changed as you're using a different interface.

Also, some plug-ins may be made inactive if the later version cannot find an equivalent. In which case simply instantiate a suitable replacement.

Aside from that and subject to any limitations of PT Express, you should be good to go.

Thanks for the response. So would it be safe to say that DVerb, compression and EQ should all be substantially similar in PT Express and the sessions with those plugins should open up and sound similar to what they sounded like in 6.4? I know the 001 vs. Mbox will be a difference, but as far as the plugins go?

Thanks again!

Most of the stock Avid / Pro Tools plug-ins should load OK with the possible exception of the EQ plug-in. This has undergone a couple of revisions and the current iteration does not seem to pick-up the settings from earlier versions (1 & 2).
