Default Pro Tools HD 12.4 now dead in the water - not recognizing HD Native hardware [SOLVED]

I was having some minor issues and decided to check for driver updates and updated my graphics driver to the latest from the nVidia site and now my rig is completely hosed. Already uninstalled PT, including the HD driver and prefs/database/etc. Uninstalled PACE and done a complete reinstall(running as administrator) and PT will not open past 2 error screens.
This one, followed by "AAE error -6117 was encountered. If I try to click on More Information on the error message, a window pops up, but never fills out and never shows any info. My only option is to quit(and the browser window that should show me info on the -6117 goes away too. My search turned up nothing regarding -6117. I also cannot hold the N key and ever get to a window to select the audio engine. The rig works fine with 11.3 and worked okay with 12.4 before the graphics driver update(with some cpu spikes). Any thoughts before I start over?

Default 12.4 now dead in the water

Master, you ask us for help? :)

None, other than downgrading the Video card driver, trashing prefs and trying again

Is this with the HD Native card in your sig?

-6117 is "Device is not present" implying a driver issue (see http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...AAE-error-6117).

What audio interface are you trying to use??
I think there could be something wrong with your system with this and the other issues you have spoke of.

Did you pull all the third party plugins out of the plugs folder before you tried to launch?

Have you cleaned the registry after uninstalling everything? Pace definitely leaves traces of files.

I would also run Windows memory diagnostic and test the ram.

I would kill the app manager and the install shield from startup.

What video card series?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling any/all ASIO drivers - that cured the same issue here a couple of weeks ago.

No ASIO drivers installed(to my knowledge) however...the plot thickens
Opened up Add/Remove programs and saw nVidia HD Audio driver, and figured I don't need that, let's uninstall it and see. So I uninstalled it and it asked for a reboot(no big surprise). After the reboot, it acted exactly the same, so I figured, what else can I remove, so back to Add/Remove programs. Lo and behold, the nVidia audio driver is back! Uninstall again and this time, instead of rebooting, I close the windows and open Pro Tools. PT opens right up, BUT insists on using the onboard audio as the engine, with no HD card showing available. How do I get my card to show up? Does 12.4 require some separate install I am not aware of? Only thing in the PT download I see is the HD Driver, which is already installed.

Going back is an option Meanwhile, the HD card shows up in Device Manager. I have uninstalled everything nVidia except for the graphics driver and am re-installing the Avid HD driver. Will report back shortly

Followup, nothing seems to work on this. If I pop in the system drive with 11.3, everything works fine so the card is in and this is all down to the nVidia update having hosed PT somehow. Next experiment will be to uninstall everything nVidia and try to get my HD card to show up as an available audio engine.

Instead of uninstalling, I disabled (4) nVidia HD Audio drivers in Device Manager>View>Show hidden devices. (see image)
