Default Why can\'t you increase the system memory?

Why can't you increase the system memory allocated to the DAE playback buffer? I have like 3 gigs, it doesn't increase past 115mb.

I'd like to have a higher level at higher track counts. 96 Tracks, 96k, level 4 needs like 300+mb but there's no way I can increase the memory allocated past 115mb, even though there's 3 gig's in the comp.

Under a true multitasking OS like OS X memory is dynamically allocated to the application as it's required.. simply allocating a shared resource to an application when it doesn't require it would be wasteful -- a well behaved application will request (allocate) memory when it needs it and return (deallocate) memory when it's done with it dynamically.

If you change the playback engine and Pro Tools needs more RAM it'll prompt you to restart the Mac.

I thought I tried this, but I'll try it again tonight and see if I still have a problem. Thank you.
