Designed by the AIR group not AVID.

In my opinion; Transfuser needs to be bigger so it can fill the whole screen. The tiny little things are a pain to operate. Also the controls need to be more accurate.

Turbosynth is a piece of software that appears to be synthesis in its simplest form.. yet is quite powerful.
You have the elements.. waveforms. oscillators, resonators, mixer etc.
These are very small modules, only about the size of a couple of smilies.
The way you connect them is to hook/wire them up by clicking and dragging (like the audio-midi set up in your Mac)
Its about ten years since i used it.. It was part of a Sound Design course i was doing...
Create all the sound for a Computer Game, using only Turbosynth
I got to be quite creative with it e.g. Once you have created a tone, you can use the pitch function to move the tone up a third and then a fifth
Layering these gives you a chord. You can then distort the chord. It did end up looking like a spiders web though.
It gives you a great understanding of Synthesis, rather than just using samples.
I recall the explanation given that if you were given a brief and part of that brief was to create the sound of an egg dropping to the floor and breaking.. This is where Turbosynth shines.

As we were only allowed Headphones during this project, i gotta say that all the bleeps, blips and buzzes got to me (slight tinnitus) ... i was glad to see the back of Turbosynth. Fortunately it only lasted 6 months.

Now years later.. i would like a copy if anyone who has one is reading this.

AIR was formed when Digidesign bought Wizoo.

Nikki K seems to have been a big Turbosynth fan or user judging from references she has made in posts.

Wizoo was acquired by Avid/Digidesign and became our Advanced Instrument Research (AIR) Group.

Turbosynth was actually a Digidesign product released in the late 80's (SF Bay Area, not Germany).
