Default protools 8 slows down 95% processor usage

on playback a project started glitching and slowing down.

Project isnt that big, try minimising protools. Still using near 100% of cpu power, even when stopped playing.

Close down protools and cpu will return to normal, restart all OK for a while.

Is there a quick fix?

seems once this cpu overload happens, only closing protools resets it.

as mentioned even when playback is stopped cpu is still very busy restling with something, is this a common issue?

That sounds like "denormalization". (the article specifically mentions a P4 processor, but it applies to all).

Find the offending plugin (Dverb and SansAmp are known to have this problem) and insert a dither plugin inline before it.

Default Big thanks to spkguitar

You were spot on!

I never got this issue before, the processors hav dropped down to between
zero & four % just by substituting the one dverb with Air Reverb (mono)

Thank you.
