Default USD generate TC

Sometimes when the USD is in "generate tc" mode, the USD is not generating. When the USD is schwitched off and again on, the problem is fixed. ??????

Anyone with the same experience?

Danny.

Yep.

Most of the time it happens when I'm schwitching from "position ref. TC" to "generate TC".

Although I have not had that specific problem, I have had the USD stop locking to tape while online and slaving to incoming LTC. I can see incoming time code but nothing happens, and this is in the middle of being locked to tape for hours and all the sudden it just stops??!! The remedy has always been to simply turn off the usd ond restart it. After that it is fine again. It has been my experience that the usd is not the best made piece and has some real weird quirks and downfalls.

Danny

We get the same problem with the USD, it seem to happen after we've been using serial machine control. Only fix seems to be the on/off switch. Digi any thoughts.

regards

Tony

A couple basic suggestions in case you haven't already done so...

1. Power conditioning.
2. Air conditioning (not just in the room, make sure your USD has some breathing space.)
3. Change serial cable.
4. Move serial cable so it is not parallel with any power/audio/computer cables.
5. Take plane to Haiti, study voodoo for several years.

This is a known bug. What happens is that the buffer gets filled, or overloaded, when timecode is rocked mercilessly back and forth. A simple work around, when the USD stops locking to timecode (though you see it running in the window) is to hit the SET button - or any front panel button - which will clear the buffer. (Though turning it off and back on does the same thing)
Sitting on a dubbing stage can really put the USD to the test, and like Old Faithful erupting every hour (the geyser, not the porn star) I can depend on the USD crapping out. Never, however, the SSD/VSD combo (I have both setups).
It is better than it used to be; it seems with every software update the problem gets less severe, as if the band-aid covers more and more of the gunshot wound.
Anyway, it IS a problem I would love to see rectified in my lifetime.

-Craig
