Dual HD\'s - Can I back up PT files to System Drive?
I've got 2 hard drives in my G4. The system and protools is on one. I record sound files to the other. I've got plenty of space on the system drive. Can I back up/copy files to the system drive without affecting performance?
Thanks

Re: Dual HD\'s - Can I back up PT files to System Drive?
OneMadSon:
I've often backed up sessions on my system drive (as storage), and have never had a problem! However, it is recommended that you NOT actually RUN the session from the system drive; you should retransfer it back to the other drive to continue working the other drive, at a future date. I often backup sessions to the system disc when I'm unsure whether a client is truly "finished" and I want to access the files quickly; rather than committing to burning a Data-CD right away; then having to reload the CD. Incidentally, Toast has a great utility "Compare" program that checks whether your transfer between drives matches absolutely. I also have run the session on the system drive inadvertantly at times and had no problems. Opinions may vary on this topic - - O'll be interested in seeing what others say . . . Hope this helps. Re: Dual HD\'s - Can I back up PT files to System Drive?
Our G-4 came stock with an 80gb system drive, that is partitioned 20gb and 60gb. The 20gb partition is for applications and OS, the 60gb for back-up.
Hope this is helpful. |

Re: Dual HD\'s - Can I back up PT files to System Drive?
Just a word of warning.
You can back up all your sessions/files/stuff to another drive. **just DO NOT run the session from the backed up location if things go wrong with the original session** If you do any recordings, the files will be stored on the _original_ drive as specified in the track/disk allocation setup in PT. This means that the new material you create will not be referenced by the session in the original folder. **So, if you do back up to another drive (on-line backup); make sure you RESTORE the session to the original location before you use it.**
