Default Record bass w/ Ampeg SVX - just plug bass into MboxPro or go in w/ DI like SansAmp?

Greetings,
I recently purchased Ampeg SVX. I've only plugged in a Fender P Bass Deluxe straight to the MboxPro to record a test track etc. Ampeg SVX sounds pretty good. I want to record a legit song I need to do bass on so I was wondering if I should just plug in direct to pro tools and use the Ampeg SVX plug in or should I use a SansAmp bass driver going in to the Mbox along with the Ampeg SVX plug in?
Thanks for any input in advance....

I prefer the bass driver or some other type of compressor - in the input -

It gives the sound a slightly processed quality - instead of relying on the internal effects

There's really no right OR wrong way to do it(IOW, try everything). How I do it: I record the bass with a direct box onto an audio track, with EQ III 1-band for a hi-pass(around 50 to keep the phones from farting out at volume) and BF76 to shave off the peaks(remember that these plugins are affected what you HEAR, not the audio as it records). Then when its time to mix, I add a mono AUX track and a send from the Bass track, to the AUX track. I insert SVX on the AUX track and usually end up with the B-15 model. For me, with the AUX send at -0, AND the AUX track(with SVX) at -0, the blend of DI track and amp sim track feels right(I save this for mix as I don't want delay compensation on as it can less with the track timings). Since the DI track feeds the amp sim POST-faer, I only need to adjust/automate the DI track while mixing(the blend remains the same because of the POST fader setup). Sorry if some of this might seem redundant or obvious, but I don't know your skill/experience level and want to cover it for newbies

Sounds good guys. My head would think to add Ampeg SVX as a plug in on the bass track and not as a 'send' but maybe I will give that a shot too.

Agreed. I never have used an amp sim on an aux track as a send/receive, always as an insert.

the blend of DI for detail and the power from the amp sim usually is better than sim alone

Duplicating the track is preferable (to me) for blending.

Good info but I would think also depends what u want ur final out to be ?

It would change things if ur looking for clean with body

Or if ur looking for grit with power

I think he means using a live bass instead of a midi bass sounds and a keyboard
