Are you talking about on a laptop? - for use with on-board sound via ASIO?

You need to have an ASIO driver installed for a sound device. If you want to use your laptop output, ASIO4ALL is what's recommended. Check out item #1 here: http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=287927

....as a follow-up question to the OP's: does PT9 still finish loading after the connect interface message?
If so, then one should be able to select any interface after loading is finished, and then everything should be fine shouldn't it?
