Default Audio dropping out during playback?

I'm gonna carefully explain my problem. First, here is the system I'm working with:

Dell Dimension E510
Intel P4 630 with HT Tech
Windows XP HOME SP2
2 GB DDR2 SDRAM @ 400 MHZ (4DIMMS) 4x512
945G Chipset
80GB System Drive
250Gb 2nd Drive
150GB External Drive
ProTools M-Powered 7.1cs8
M-Audio Audiophile USB (Latest Drivers)
M-Audio StudioPro4 Active Monitors

Now..this is what's going on..

Plain and simple: I'll be playing somethin in PT M-Powered or even not in PT...the audio will cut out and the PC will restart itself...what's goin on..has happened 2 or 3 times already...I'm using the Audiophile USB Interface to run my audio. My onboard sound IS diabled as well..been that way for a long time...I used to have an APUSB that broke (inputs had a problem) but it also did the same thing...what could be the cause of this?? Cause when it does work it works VERY WELL.

The "even not in PT" part points to it being a problem with your computer, and not necessarily a Pro Tools problem.

It could be a thermal issue; your computer may be overheating and most motherboards have protection built in that will shut them down once the temerature reaches a certain threshold.

It may also be a driver in your PC throwing an error. You need to set windows so that it shows you the error you are getting (blue screen of death) instead of immediately restarting. You can also check the system error logs after restarting to try to pinpoint the error.
