Upgrading from mbox2 mini to used digi 002r is it worth it?
I am currently using a mbox 2 mini USB with protools 8, I got an offer to buy a digi 002 rack at a decent price, ofcourse more inputs is always good. But most importantly it is firewire, i think my mbox 2 is USB 1? and firewire would offer lower latency and such right? maybe I can run more plugins also?
So is this worth it? is digi 002 compatible with protools 8 and vista? would be nice to hear from others using this system |

Re: Upgrading from mbox2 mini to used digi 002r is it worth it?
If the 002r is cheap enough, AND you are aware of the dreaded power harness issue, I would go for it. The overall functionality of it is way better than the USB Mboxes. Plus, its easier to expand the inputs, or use external preamps. The 002 is still supported right up to and including PT9.

I am not English and i do not know what harness is, is this a serious problem? something i could fix myself it it where to happen to the unit, and is it something many 002 users have experienced?

The 002r is a great unit.
Lower latency yes, more plugs...not really. The 002 has low latency software monitoring which is a godsend compared to the dreaded mix knob. You can get the 002 down to 64 samples for tracking, I have found this impossible on the mbox 2 USB series. If you want to avoid the power harness issue find out the serial number of the unit. The last letter is the revision and rev g was when the issue was fixed. Touch wood, I have rev g and in 5 years have not had an issue. I would be weary of a bla mod, the 002's are getting on a bit now and you run the risk of potential end of support. Better off spending the money on a decent adat unit which can be transferred to a newer interface down the line. My 2 cents. Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
