Default We Need A New Forum Section

It will be called
Posts for people who can't or won't even try to read the manual or search.

I would be embarrassed to post some of these questions

An analogy would be a auto repair forum and post a question like

How do I start the car?

What are the radio knobs for?

What is the difference between gas and oil?

People might think I am being mean but I am really concerned with this on a much bigger level than just audio

I actually had a guy come in for an interview with his Mom two days ago
When I asked her to wait out in the lobby they left.

I can understand you. And unfortunately there's nothing we can do to prevent such guys from posting.

LOL, I used to manage a retail store. I remember having a woman come in and fill out a job application for her husband, and then try to get us to hire him(sight unseen) based on her description of how great of a salesman he would be. He was unemployed, and supposedly available 7 days a week.

If a MIDI event triggers a sample of a tree falling and there's no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?

And if you looked at any given section, 19 out of the 20 visible posts would always say:

MOVED TO FORUM: Posts for people who can't or won't even try to read the manual or search

What we really need is a way to make new members actually read the "Help us Help You" bit before they can post. I think I'll phone my doctor and tell him, "Doc....it hurts when I do this..."

Sorry have to disagree. This is a user forum and shouldn't be elitist. The argument against having completely 'newbie' questions here was lost when Avid opened up the software to any and all hardware. Up to that point there was a prerequisite level of purchase that had been made that tended to weed out some 'plug and play' type of problems.

If these 'newbie' posts were moved to yet another sub-forum then the questions would never get answered. In my opinion you need fewer forums not more. There should be fewer places where people can ask random questions because then there's fewer places for experienced users to go to help people.

Few things that I believe can and should be kept separate:

Mac Versions vs Windows versions - The technical problems behind these platforms are different and the knowledge-base for fixing those problems is also different.

Avid Hardware:
HDx - System optimisation for high end systems is very different from a USB interface.
TDM - I'm on the fence about this one even due to it being a well established platform and on it's way out as PT software moves forward. A lot of the knowledge needed to optimize these systems is well established and published.

Control Surfaces and Consoles - should be obvious why

Everything Else - General Discussion, any post title that contains the words: petition, survey or wishlist should be moved to General Discussion almost automatically (I don't think vBulletin supports automatic movement but if it did then I'd say do that).

DUC needs to get back to a useful and concise environment and searching needs to be prioritised. If it is possible for a google this site box to be placed instead of the vbulletin search then it should be as soon as possible.

Just my 2 or maybe 3c.

C
