Yeah, this is going to be incredible. I can't wait to see if it works with PT7 to run an enormous amount of plug-ins. On another note, the PowerBooks received a very pathetic upgrade today.

Yes but PCI express only... not for PT HD

We're stuck with a dual 2.7 for PT.

We will have to wait for PT HD cards with PCI express... or a PCI Express to PCI expansion chassis.

The HD cards should still work in PCI Express slots just like they worked in the PCI-X slots on the old G5.

Digi, any word on compatability?

I'm on Mix and looking to upgrade, but I'm not about to paint myself into a corner again by being stuck with old tech in an ever changing world if I'm going to be smacking down over $10k to upgrade...

from the site http://www.interfacebus.com/Design_C...I_Express.html

"Common Questions from up-scale PC builders and gamers:
1 Can I use a PCI card in a PCI Express card slot; No the electrical and physical interfaces are completely different.
2 Can I use a PCI Express card in a PCI card slot; No electrical and physical interfaces are completely different."

thanks Steve!

As far as I know, the PCI-Express connector is physically different from PCI-X, and it's some kind of serial protocol. HD cards won't fit.

Yes, the only way you'll get a PT HD card into a PCI Express slot is with a big mallet, and results are not guaranteed.

Here's a great page on PCI Express for anyone interested in coming up to speed on the topic...

This can only mean one thing.
Digi must be working on PCI Express cards.

Will the new Intel Macs use the Express slots too?

Don't ya just love it.

So will Digi be releasing PCIe cards soon or will Magma come up with a PCIe card that will allow you to use your "older" Digi HD cards in a chasis?

I think with Apple going forward with PCIe instead of the PCI-X slots will help push Digi ahead since most newer PC motherboards also have PCIe slots.

Also thanks for the link Lee that is some interesting reading.
