Default Re: best sampler to work with protools?

thanks Carl!

I will take a closer look at this in the nex few days - decided to go back to DP7 for a while since I had already started some of this series pilots las year in DP..

I think I might have skipped the AIR stuff on install for some reason?

I think the answer I am lookin for will probably not be protools specific for the above reason - some people I work with also on DP as its a bit less limited than protools ( track counts and surround )

I'm glad I got the last CPTK in the shop tho!!

the assignment solution is much better..

actually I may try an record some screen capture an put it on youtubes to see if there are any other DP workflows I miss available in PY

so this is even better in 11 since can have more assignments?

I usally work with 4 that in combination seem to handle a lot of situations without havin to faff editing parameters too often

( send a a slap back simulate wide open space - b - roomy reverb smalish space.. c hall ish space - d massive space.. )

I will have to look at the installer to see if structure is the answer - but I was hedgin towards a non specific solution

that free alchemy player wont install for some reason

perhaps my stubborness to move from 10.6.8

anyway to hot key the assignments? ie send A B C D etc

will the Mac OS finder insert these? that would be pretty handy..

Yeah, you can view all 10 as faders.

I don't know if Digital Performer can run as a ReWire slave (it may only work as the master, like Pro Tools) but you have a number of options for hosting any sampler you like in another DAW, such as Live, or Reaper, and ReWiring that in to Pro Tools.

There are also options like Reason that can be ReWired, and some standalone samplers can be ReWired too, as well as utilising applications like Soundflower, or Mainstage to route from DAW's such as Logic, that cannot run as a ReWire slave.

The other option is to use one of the AAX plug-ins that can host VST Instruments , such as the recent MB7 from Blue Cat Audio - which means you can use any 64bit VSTi Sampler you like.

I've no idea, I'm a total technophobe.

might be possible..

go to Mac OS sys prefs pane - choose keyboard.. then keyboard short cuts,'

click on application short cuts... and the plus key - choose prtools ( may need to go to other )

- then add the exact name of the menu command.. and designate a short cut for it..

havent tried this yet ... might work tho!

( i did this in audio finder and can recall AU presets this way! whooo! )

What's up with you all? Nobody mentioned Motu MachFive!
It's a sampler, drag n drop, full screen, flexible, huge sound library, imports every possible format, bla bla bla bla

I'm using it I'm very happy. Look into it.
Available in all formats. 32, 64, win, mac, AAX 32&64 AND STANDALONE!

:) - its on my to check out list... I asked the dealer to give me a demo - but everytime I go he hasnt installed it yet..

does it also export? might wanna share some patches with co workers....

if they can be exported into some kind of free sample player - would be a great solution.

actually alchemy if it works - might be what I am after.. since its free.. an I am not interested in makin music particularly with it.. ( if I do want to play I just muck around in ableton )

cos the cost of Mach 3 is a bit high... ( i dont need 100 gigs of orchestral samples etc..

just want a sampler to drag an drop into... and can organise samples better than reason NN-XT and its postage stamp size sample editor... ( I am still on reason 3 since I felt no need to upgrade - and they havent updated the thing I use it for these days - ie the sampler )

Export from machfive to different software, or to share from machfive to another machfive?
I have not seen another sampler with almost every tool in the book.
Price, you get what you pay for...
The guitar mode is amazing! So is it's effects.
Apegiator is cool and useful.
Library of scripts to manipulate your instrument.
And the list is big....

ideally being able to export to some format that a 'free sampler' can play

so people who are givin me a hand here an there dont have to go out an buy mach 5 as well if they dont have it...
