Default Using Waves StudioRack in Pro Tools

when I signed up with Waves (well, brought a few plugs) they offered StudioRack for free in my account which I guess is standard for all. I haven't downloaded it yet thinking loading that up all over the place would just increase CPU load. Why wouldn't you just create track presets? what is the benefits of StudioRack that track presets cant cover apart from extra eye candy? I mean it does look good. but in all reality all it really does is turn PT inserts into thumbnails which you can click on, just like I can click through the inserts in PT in the same way and still see the plug in PT's plug window. Or does it offer other things of benifit.

Is it better to use StudioRack with some external processing like SoundGrid Mobile Server or similar.

I don't use it too much so I'm not sure of other features but you can insert 8 plugins in one PT insert slot.

Thanks for your reply....

Do you use or need to use external processing?

^^^This. More "inserts" as it were. I have set ups saved for various things which now that PT has track saves it's less needed. But i have stuff like one "rack" for things like BV , bass, etc and i have some "racks" that are just comps or just eq's so i can click through to get different flavors to find what works best for a particular track which is easier than setting up a bunch of inserts... Of course it only works for Wave stuff. But if you have a waves effects "chain" that you use regularly it can simplify.

You can also link multiple parameters of different plugins to one knob/dial. So you could automate one dial that is automating multiple parameters.

Think linking in/out controls. Sweeping cutoff and resonance at the same time. Loads of possibilities for creative use.

I didn't know that (haven't touched the manual yet), thx. Cool if they have put a wet/dry knob somewhere

No external, all ITB for waves plugins. I have external compressors that I use mostly tracking and mixdown but not usually when mixing.
