Default Pro Tools 11 HD Lag when recording and stopping

When I record in Pro Tools 11 HD it takes 5 to seconds before the recording starts, then another 5-10 seconds for it to stop. There are no issues with Pro Tools 10 on the same system. Avid HD Native, Win 7, i7990x, Nvidia Quadro k2000. No it is not count off for sure.

Downstairs I have Pro Tools 11 Native and there are no issues. Anyone else experiencing this?

OK another try for the floppy disk bug.... Do you happen to have a floppy disk in this PC? If so disable it in the Windows Device Manager or BIOS and restart. There is an interesting bug with floppy drives and the software in PT11 that reads CD content an drive will keep trying to read an empty floppy drive. That has been discussed on DUC in other threads.

No, there is no floppy disk drive on the system. Could it be something else like a CD Drive, RAM, Video Card? I've tried different hard drives on the system and they both lagged. I've also tried two different Quadro video cards. I have a SSD system and separate drives for Pro Tools.

Its not just AVID Pro Tools 11 HD. My PT11 Native sometimes just doesn't acted right, takes time to start/stop, the GUI Freezes all the time.

I was having some freeze issues and reinstalling PT11 HD seemed to have helped.

Try an uninstall and reinstall, but you might also want to try...

Double check all the systems optimizations are done. Every last one of them. Especially any antivirus or disk indexing software is disabled.

Also are all plugins up to date/try removing them all and see if the problem goes away.

Delete databases and prefs.

Did you uninstall any previous PT installs before installing 11? If you have a coinstall what version of 10 is it? Did you uninstall any pre 10.3.6 versions before installing 10.3.6 or 10.3.7? (I suspect there are some messed up installs happening because if incorrect coinstall procedures).

Does this happen on all sessions? On a new session, starting totally empty (not a template) and say importing one audio track?

Post a Sandra report.

BTW do any transport buttons in the GUI flash while this is happening ?

FIXED!!!

It was the floppy drive. Although I do not have any floppy drive hardware it still shows up in Windows 7 for some reason. Disabling it in device manager fixed my problem.

Thank you all!

Thank you everybody: this worked perfectly for me, too. Disabling the floppy drive from the device manager (or BIOS) solved my lag problem.

And I thank you too. I had this problem and consulted with ProTools tech support for at least 8 hours. Found it initially on my Win 7 system running PT 11. On the advice of PT tech support, I installed PT 12, rebuilt my system with a fresh install of Win 78, reinstalled PT 12, deleted it and went back to PT 11, oh, and early on re-applied all the optimizations, and on and on. I guess this problem is rare enough that none of the tech guys, and I spoke to Pro Tools tech guys based in the Philippines, Romania and Daily City, CA (I swear this is all true) and none of them had a clue. I wasted 5 days on this problem.
