Default query with protools 7.3 le and a macbook

Hi there I keep getting the message below every time I move my mouse whiles im recording audio in or doing nearly anything for that matter.

CPU usage is holding off USB audio. Remove some plug-ins, delete some tracks, or increase the "H/W buffer size" in the playback engine dialog. (-9136)

My specs are:
Mbox 1
Pro tools 7.3
Macbook 2.16 Ghz intel duo,
Memory 2 gb
OSX 10.4

Ive tried running just protools by itself with one track, cpu usage at 90%, 2 processors, buffer size up to 1024 samples etc, but still no joy.
Is my mac just not powerful enough to run 7.3?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

K.

There are a variety of troubleshooting/optimization steps contained in the general troubleshooting thread.

general troubleshooting

The main areas to consider (but not limited to) include,

- Try a different USB port for a start.

- You might consider updating the Mbox firmware if appropriate.

- Are you using the internal HD to record audio. That is not supported (or recommended). You need a fast (min 7200 rpm) external FW HD with Oxford chipset.

- Turn off anything running in the background e.g Airport/Bluetooth etc.

Hi Phil, thanks for the advice! I have been recording directly to the internal hardrive, I will try doing it to an external one and i'll check out the general trouble shooting page. Thanks again! K.
