I will no longer buy monster because of this

I do not support companies who think they can copyright a word

if some of these companies had cable or some other reference I could understand but to sue everyone for using the word monster is ridiculous and loathsome

Yes, this sort of thing is pretty bad. But I avoid Monster Cable because they sell overpriced 'snake oil' products.

The disturbing thing here is the glaring fact that Monster cable is making money by hassling people - it smacks of some sort of legal loophole racket. If they weren't pulling down cash with their mob boss tactics, you can bet the bank they'd only be going after legit infringers, not movies, mom-n-pop shops, football teams, and educational filmmakers.

I understand that when you have a trademark, you are charged to actively protect it lest you lose it, but this is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. Most, if not all, of the hassled companies (even the biggies) have less than nothing to do with manufacturing overpriced "premium" cable. On top of that, I don't see any of those companies trying to piggyback off of Monster Cable's name or reputation (as if that were something to shoot for).

Bottom line - they're a bunch of money-hungry unethical pricks...and that's just because they make overpriced underperforming prosumer products. The fact that they go after non-infringing parties for money makes them something far worse than anything I can type here.

What's funny to me is how self-obsessed this company must be. I mean, outside of the audio world, does anyone know or care about a stupid cable making company?? It's not a high profile (or even very interesting) industry. Weird.

But it's the only cable company which has any brand recognition in the ordinary consumer world. Given the dubious technical value of their product, I certainly understand them vigorously protecting their most valuable asset - their name. (understand, not condone)

And as snake-oil cable pushers go, they're not as bad as the guys with the $300 Ac cables, or $1000 interconnects. Monster is overpriced, overhyped stuff for the masses.
