Exclamation 9.05 with lion buffer issues

Everything works flawlessly on my MacBook Pro quad I7 with my Mbox 3 Pro under lion however on my main rig which is a Quad I7 27" iMac (pre thunderbolt) I am constantly getting the classic buffer error after 1 or 2 seconds of audio. I have tried every combination possible of buffer sizes and CPU core numbers. HELP ME GUYS!

Oops I forgot to mention that I am using an 003 desk with the iMac and not the Mbox 3 Pro.

What are you using for an audio disk?
Is it Firewire?
If so, what order do you have it plugged in, in relation to the 003?

I am using a 1TB lacie external running on the USB 2.0 bus. It has always functioned fine before. What's worse is that both my mac and protools have stopped even recognizing that my 003 even exists. ProTools is defaulting to aggregate I/O upon opening. This is driving me nuts.

USB is not recommended.
When booting up PT hold down the N key, then choose the oo3

Yeah I know it isn't recommended but I have always had better luck with it instead of trying to daisy chain another firewire drive with the 003. I am considering having a SATA port modded into my iMac. I have tried launching protools while holding "N" but the 003 simply doesn't show up.
