Default laptop junx

ok so i'm having trouble here. i have a digi 001. check. i have a g4. check.

now .. the problem.. i want to sell my g4 to a friend of mine who needs it for HD, and i want to buy a g3 laptop ($800, can't beat it). what is out there as far as digi/laptop solutions?

i have seen the magma stuff, but thats just a little expensive from what i've read. any ideas? i need to be able to connect the PCI from the digi into the laptop, but alas, no PCI slots. now, i know i could get an mbox, but i definetely dont want to sacrifice my digi.

i'll be on the road a lot and i really use my digi a lot. any solutions?

thank you much!
chris

I wouldn't recommend going from any G4 (laptop or desktop) to any G3. The fastest G3 ibook is not gonna perform as well as the slowest g4 tower. Factor in the amount of system resources used in using the usb (MBox) or firewire (002/r ) to use pro tools and the G3 is done. You should keep your G4 unless you want to use the G3 to do light PT work, but I wouldn't count on getting anywhere near the kind of performance your G4 has. Maybe you should look into a g4 ibook at the very least.

i would, but money is a big issue there. for the most part, i won't be doing a ton of mixing on it as i will be taking the tracks to my friends studio. i just want something i can track on. but i take it from what you said that there really isn't a way to do anything with the digi and the laptop.. i'd need the dig 002/r or mbox?
