It is a pretty simple concept, so maybe the math will help if displayed in a formula...

003: 4 mic + 4 line + 8 ADAT + 2 SPDIF + no aggregation = 18 maximum inputs

I am just about to upgrade to PT9|HD for a number of reasons, but one of the MAIN reasons is I would like to record 8+ tracks at 88.1 or higher. Due to financial restriction I will probably only be buying a 96i/o. So, just to be clear, I can NOT run both a 96i/o and my BLA HD modded 002 together compatibly in Pro Tools 9|HD to track or monitor, correct? The 002 simply wouldn't be recognized?

Would I be able to track in to Logic using a 96i/o and my 002 at the same time, using both for i/o? I just need more than 8 tracks for drums, so I could always dump from Logic back in to PT and track everything else...

Sorry to be seeming to ask a question that has been answered in this thread, but I'm just trying to get an answer that is in simple, non technical terms.

Check the Buy and Sell section as theres currently a member selling a 96io at a fair price.

You can't use LE and HD interfaces together.

so i would not be able to record with both devices in to logic at 88.1?

also, there isn't a way to get 88.1 for more than 8 channels out of a 96i/o correct? i know the 96i offers 16 analog ins, but then i only have two analog outs. I could drive my monitors with s/pdif, but having two mono sends or one stereo send is kinda weak...
