Sorry to dip off topic but in what way is a 003 a dedicated surround controller? The monitor control is still only stereo so you still have to use a third party controller to control your monitor level. With a MOTU Ultralite, you can easily control the 7.1 output and or the stereo monitor level from CueMix or assign a front panel knob. With an Artist Mix you also have extended visual feedback in the scribble strips, including surround metering.

You're right about the MOTU. I was just saying that I would rather use my third party controller than CueMix or a knob on the Ultralite.

To come back on topic, one thing I still can't find an answer to, the day before it happens, is how this works logistically. Will all of us with existing PT11 (HD in my case) ilok assets wake up tomorrow morning to find that they've been updated, to reflect whether we're on the plan or not? Does this herald a secondary licensing system such as individual machine author, or even worse, online auth, which has dire implications for those of us who don't or can't have our machines connected to the outside world?

I'm convinced, from a Pro user's pov, about this plan, as I can see the benefits, as I previously stated a long way back up this forum.

This is going to happen, tomorrow, and people will sign up to it. What hasn't been sorted out in my opinion is the nuts and bolts of how it actually works.

From my take, all of us who currently have some flavor of Protools 11 (vanilla or HD) will continue on with our current license as it sits for PT 11.2.x. BUT that if we want to update or upgrade to any future version, then we will need to buy into the support plan to do so. We have until December 20, 2014 to make that purchase for either $199 or $599. If we don't make that purchase by 12-20-2014, then we will have to buy whatever new version, such as PT11.5 for the full retail price ($899, but they haven't said if that is just for Vanilla, or for HD also, or what the HD price will be).

If we take the bait and pay for the upgrade before 12-20-2014, then I'm sure we will get a new iLok authorization deposited into our account for whatever it is that Avid is selling at that point.

No clue if that will include PT10 bundled with whatever the new version is, or when it will be released, or what it will include.

It should be painfully clear to all by now that Avid has no intention whatsoever of clarifying the new licensing or answering any questions. They're just going to burry their heads in the sand and pretend that the Emperor's new clothes are really cool and stylish.

Hold yer horses, they'll answer. AFAIK, they're required to since it's a support contract.

Maybe someone who has upgraded could open a ticket tomorrow and ask them to explain themselves.

To me, other than fixing existing bugs, what is they could implement in the future that would make it so compelling to to truly "need" to upgrade, or at least foreseeable future (10 years)?

I'm sure there are things that are related to post, but that's not me or a lot of people I know that use PTHD in studios that mostly record bands.

How about fixing the MIDI implementation? I would pay good money for that.
